You’re minutes away from insurance savings.

Geico offers Emergency Roadside Service (ERS) as an add-on to a car insurance policy starting at $14 per car per year. If your vehicle is disabled or you’re stranded, you can request assistance through the Geico mobile app or by calling (800) 424-3426.

Geico roadside assistance coverage includes towing, battery jump starts (excluding EVs), tire changes, lockout services, winching and fuel delivery. If you’re unable to call or request assistance, you can also pay for your own roadside assistance and later request a reimbursement from Geico. The reimbursement amount is subject to the limits shown in your policy.

How to get service from Geico roadside assistance

You can typically expect Geico’s roadside assistance to arrive within an hour, depending on your location. There are two ways to request the service.

  • Use the mobile app. Geico says you can submit a request for help in as little as two minutes via your smartphone. The Geico app also has some features not available through the helpline, such as GPS reporting of your breakdown location and app-based updates on your service provider’s location.
  • Call Geico. Geico’s 24/7 roadside assistance phone number is 1-800-424-3426.

Keep in mind: If you’re in a car accident, your tow will generally be covered through your collision insurance or the at-fault driver’s liability coverage — not your roadside assistance.

What Geico roadside assistance covers

Geico offers one level of emergency roadside assistance — also called towing and labor coverage — as an add-on to your car insurance policy. It includes a variety of services for you and your covered vehicle.

  • Towing will get your car to the nearest qualified repair shop within 20 miles.
  • Battery jump starts give your dead battery a boost. Note that Geico doesn’t offer battery charging for electric vehicles (EVs).
  • Tire changes are available for flat tires and blowouts, as long as you have a functioning spare.
  • Lockout services offer up to $100 for a locksmith if your keys get locked in your car.
  • Winching can pull your vehicle back onto the road if you get stuck on or immediately next to a publicly maintained roadway.
  • Fuel delivery gets you to a gas station or your destination if you run out of gas.

Every request for emergency road service has limits laid out in your automobile policy. For Geico drivers, this includes reasonable expenses incurred on owned or non-owned autos. Coverage may be limited to one hour of mechanical labor at the place of breakdown, and lockouts are limited to $100 if the keys are lost, broken or locked in the car. Geico also does not pay for gas, a loaned battery or change of tires.

Your policy and location may affect your exact coverage.

How Geico roadside assistance reimbursement works

You may need to get roadside assistance services at some point without going through Geico. For example, drivers in New York are required to use towing companies designated by local authorities.

If this happens and you need to pay for services directly, keep the original road service bill and send it to Geico for reimbursement.

  • By email: towingrefund@geico.com
  • By fax: (866) 954-3761
  • By mail: GEICO, Emergency Road Service, P.O. Box 8075, Macon, GA 31208-8075

Once approved, Geico will send you a check or an electronic funds transfer, up to that specific service’s coverage limit.

How can I check my claim status for Geico?

To check your reimbursement claim status at Geico, use the insurer’s mobile app. Alternatively, you can also visit the Geico claims page or call Geico’s ERS billing department at 800-522-7775.

Is Geico’s emergency road service worth it?

Geico offers roadside assistance as an add-on to your insurance policy starting at $14 a year per vehicle. If you’re a frequent traveler, drive long distances or have young adults on your policy, this coverage could offer valuable peace of mind

You may want to consider roadside assistance pricing and availability when you shop around for new car insurance quotes in the future. Some insurers may include this service free of charge. Other companies, like AAA, offer more comprehensive road service packages, sometimes at a cheaper rate for those with multiple vehicles.

Does using Geico roadside assistance count as a claim?

Geico’s roadside assistance is an add-on to your auto policy, and will generate a claim number if you need to request service. However, this is classified as a roadside assistance-only claim, and is not the same as a collision-related claim. It’s unlikely that your premium will be affected by using roadside assistance but it’s best to talk to a Geico agent if you have questions.
