Car Insurance in New Jersey

New Jersey Insurance Coverage
New Jersey requires drivers to carry the following minimum coverage, which the state refers to as a “basic” policy:
- $5,000 in property damage liability.
- $15,000 in personal injury protection, or PIP, per person per accident.
Drivers can purchase a “standard” policy for additional coverage, but it’s not required. This policy includes:
- $25,000 in bodily injury liability per person.
- $50,000 in bodily injury liability per accident.
- $25,000 in property damage liability per accident.
- $15,000 in PIP per person per accident.
Depending on your vehicle and budget, state-mandated minimum coverage may not be enough car insurance to protect your finances. Many drivers opt for full coverage car insurance, which includes coverage for your vehicle, regardless of fault, and provides protection in the case of a natural disaster, theft or vandalism. Compare quotes for multiple coverage levels and from different insurers to find the right policy at the best rate.
