2018 Audi Q5 engine oil capacity

Every engine is different. So, just how much oil does the 2018 Audi Q5 engine need? According to the owner’s manual, the 2018 Q5 takes 5.5 quarts, or 5.2 liters, of motor oil.
Just remember that your car’s oil capacity (the amount of oil the engine can hold) is not the same as your
engine displacement
(the amount of space your cylinders take up). The two are not interchangeable, so make sure you stick to oil capacity when filling or changing your oil.

What kind of oil does a 2018 Audi Q5 need?

Now you know howmuch oil your 2018 Audi Q5 needs—but what type do you need to buy? Motor oils come in a variety of different grades, so it’s important to make sure you buy the kind of oil that your engine needs.
Audi recommends using 5W-40 synthetic motor oil in your 2018 Q5. If you’re wondering what 5W-20 means, you’re not alone—most people don’t know.
5W-40 refers to the oil’s viscosity—or its thickness. The “W” stands for “winter,” and the number 5 next to it tells us that this oil has a pretty low viscosity at 0°F. The number 40 tells us that this oil is relatively thin at 212°F, the engine’s normal operating temperature.
Many manufacturers recommend synthetic oil over conventional oil because it causesless wear and tear to your car. Though synthetic oil is more expensive than conventional motor oil, you’ll tend to see better fuel efficiency with synthetic—and you won’t need to change your oil as often.
We went ahead and pulled up some motor oil options for the 2018 Audi Q5 to make your shopping easy:

How often to change the oil on a 2018 Audi Q5

Audi recommends changing the oil in your 2018 Q5 every 3,500 to 5,000 miles as part of your
basic car maintenance schedule
. If you don’t drive often, you can also use every six months as a benchmark.
But depending on the condition of your car’s engine, you might need changes more frequently. Here are signs to check for that mean it might be time for an oil change:
  • Motor oil is brown and thick rather than light amber
  • Motor oil is dirty, coarse, and gritty
  • You notice unexplained changes in your car’s performance, such as decreased fuel efficiency
  • New smells coming from your engine—especially anything that smells like oil or burning
  • Unfamiliar noises coming from your engine

How to change your oil and oil filter

Now that you understand your Q5’s oil type and capacity, you can decide if it's time to
change the oil and filter
in your Audi. And if it is, we’ve got you covered!
First, gather the appropriate materials. You’ll need a socket wrench, drain pan, and a filter wrench, along with a replacement filter and washer for your drain bolt. And, of course, don’t forget 6 quarts of 5W-40 synthetic motor oil.
Now, turn on your engine and run it until it reaches normal operating temperature. This should take about five minutes.
Once the needle on your temperature gauge is halfway between “C” and “H,” turn your engine off and complete the following steps to change your oil:
  • Open up the hood of your car
    to locate the oil tank
  • Remove the oil cap from the oil tank
  • Go underneath your engine and place the drain pan under the oil tank
  • With the drain pan below, use a socket wrench to unscrew the drain bolt and washer and let the dirty oil drain into the pan
  • Remove the old oil filter and let the tank finish draining completely
  • Install the new oil filter and replace the drain bolt with a new washer
  • Refill your oil tank with 5.5 quarts of 5W-40 synthetic motor oil
When you’re done changing your oil, use a dipstick to verify the oil level in your tank. If everything looks good, screw the oil fill cap back on. Then run your engine for a few minutes to verify there aren’t any leaks
And that’s it! Just remember to put your dirty oil in a sealed container and bring it to your local motor oil recycling stationdon’t throw it in the trash or down the drain!
