What color metal roof fades the least?
My house needs a new roof and I have decided on metal because it lasts longer—but I’ve heard that certain colors can fade and make your roof look old or dirty. So what color metal roof fades the least?

A new roof is a major investment! It makes sense that you want it to stay gorgeous and looking new for as long as possible.
When it comes to your color choice, lighter colors made with inorganic pigments will typically fade the least. A light-colored roof also makes your house look taller!
Colors like beige, gray, or white fade less than darker or more vibrant colors. In addition to choosing a fade-resistant color, here are a couple of other factors to consider:
- Pigment type: Colors made from inorganic pigments keep their color longer than colors made with organic pigments.
- Finish type: Matte finish metal keeps its color better than metal with a glossy finish.
- Paint system: Between the two main paint systems—SMP and PVDF—PVDF coatings contain higher-quality pigments and resin which make your roof look newer longer.
Your metal roof may very well last for 30 years or more, so make sure you pick something you love! You can also repaint your metal roof if you ever change your mind—or choose an exposed metal roof with no paint at all!
