What should I do if my 2005 Ford Escape dome light stays on?

I have a 2005 Ford Escape that I use as my commuter car. Yesterday, I went to start it, and the battery was dead. After charging the battery, I noticed the interior dome light was on, which was draining the battery. What can I do to fix the issue?

Sorry you had to find out the hard way, but your current situation is surprisingly easy to fix. If your 2005 Ford Escape dome light stays on, try one of these three remedies:
  • Make sure the dimmer wheel to the left of the steering wheel is rolled down or to an appropriate level. If you happen to roll this dimmer wheel on, it permanently leaves the dome light on.
  • Check the dome light to make sure that the switch is off. If you accidentally turned it to the on position, it will stay on even if you close the door.
  • Check the door latch. If the door latch on the 2005 Escape is damaged or bent, it won’t properly close and will leave the dome light on as a result.
